I felt so compelled to write this email after I received your book, The Collected Tabletop. My dear friend, Barbara Valentine, helped my husband, Randy, locate one for me during the holidays. I am southern born and bred, and actually grew up in Waynesville. I have lived the past 20 years in Asheville, and like so many southern women, I LOVE to cook and entertain for family and friends. I told my husband that of all the beautiful gifts he has given me, this is perhaps the best. So…..I sent one to my best friend in Statesville, Shirley. She loved it and bought one for her niece and one of her friends in Atlanta. I then sent one to a dear friend who was uprooted from WNC and now lives in Pennsylvania. She, of course, loved it and sent one to her sister in West Virginia. Another friend, who lives on Lake Norman, bought 4 of them for her daughters in law and a granddaughter after seeing Shirley’s. My neighbor and friend sent one to both of her daughters (after buying one for herself)….one who lives in Charlotte and the other in Boston. As you can see, this has had a domino effect with my friends. We will now email each other and share ideas when we do a theme party, and you gave me wonderful, creative inspiration for a Valentine’s dinner party I will do for 6 couples on Sunday. Lastly, my part-time neighbor, who is a private chef in the Hamptons, saw mine and ordered one. He has some very high profile clients and he said he can’t wait to “wow” them with some ideas from the book. I know I am rambling, but I just wanted you to know the impact your creation had on me and friends. Also, Miriam’s mac and cheese is heavenly…..the 2nd time I made it, I added about 1/2 cup of shredded gruyere cheese an d it was awesome.
